During our PE sessions on a Monday, Year 5 have developing our cricket skills with the support of a specialised cricket coach. We have been practising our throwing, catching, batting and bowling techniques. Unfortunately, the weather has been unkind to us during the last few sessions and we have been limited with the space in the hall. Yesterday, although it was still very windy, the weather was much kinder and we were able to really focus on batting and bowling outside.

We developed our batting techniques and practised batting using a standing tee. We practised the ‘straight drive’ technique.

We hit the ball towards the fielding area. If it went through the two cones then we could add 4 extra runs on to our score. The fielders needed to act fast to stop us from scoring any more runs!

We then practised over-arm bowling. This is tricky but we persevered. The coach explained different ways to improve our bowling and we practised in our groups.

Miss Allen spotted some budding cricketers amongst the class! In our next few sessions we will be learning how to play pairs cricket in preparation for a festival next term.
