In Poplar Class, we have recently completed artwork and poetry around an interesting animal. We are submitting our pieces to the Solihull Children’s Book Group competition to celebrate their 25th birthday! We have been using the book, ‘The Star Whale’, to be the inspiration for our pieces of work.

During our reading sessions, we have been reading lots of different examples of poetry which has taught us that poems come in lots of different styles! Poems can be long, short, funny, serious, rhyming and can even look like shapes! A lot of us have opted to write a poem about an animal, but give it a funny and quirky twist!

Some of us have written about dogs who go to school, penguins who play football, greedy dinosaurs and even cats that have lost their purr! Miss Rowlands has been blown away by our creativity and imagination during this project and thinks we are all deserving to win!
