Last week, Year 4 took part in the Chance 2 Shine Cricket festival where they competed against other schools in the local area at Solihull and Hampton Cricket Club. On the day, we had two teams of children. Each team played three games of Continuous Cricket against other children from different schools.

Despite the rainy weather, we had such a fun and exciting day showcasing our Cricket skills that we have practised and developed in our Cricket Coaching sessions last half term. Both teams had some great bats and many of the children took their fielding responsibilities very seriously.

Since we have learnt that fielders have an integral role in Cricket, the children were able to use their fielding skills to stop the ball effectively and return it to the bowler as quickly as possible. The fastest way for the ball to travel is by throwing it.

All the children had a go at batting and they did a great job of protecting their wicket and then making runs to add to their score. The children were also rated on their School Games Values. Specifically, they were judged by their opponents on the respect they showed to each other and how well they demonstrated good teamwork.

At the festival, the children were positive, polite and considerate of their behaviour. They actively encouraged one another and listened carefully to their instructions from the Cricket Coaches leading the festival. A very well done, Year 4! 🏏
