The children in Year 5 and 6 were very excited to be visited by the ‘Animal Man’ on Wednesday 3rd July. He introduced us to different types of animals and told us some amazing facts about them throughout the session. A special thank you to the PTA for organising this event – we all thought it was brilliant!

First we met Alan (the white faced SCOPS owl). We learned some interesting facts about how Alan can fly silently to hunt his prey and about his incredible hearing. Miss Allen was impressed by Alan’s posing skills for the camera!

After getting to stroke Alan we moved on to a different type of animal altogether! Year 5 and Year 6 had a very different reaction to hearing that they were going to meet these creatures: cockroaches! It was funny to hear that all of the cockroaches are called ‘Coco’ as there are too many of them to name individually.

Many of the children reported that holding the cockroaches hadn’t been as scary as they thought it would be! Next we met Tank, who was a Pacman frog! We were able to gently stroke him – the texture of his skin was quite interesting!

We met Leroy the Leopard Gecko and Sheila the Blue-tongued Lizard. Miss Allen made friends with Snowflake the corn snake and we were all able to hold her around our necks. Snowflake held tightly on to Miss Allen’s wrist and she was reluctant to put her back. Perhaps a corn snake would make a nice addition to Year 5?

Lastly we met Bert who was super tired after a long day of meeting children. Bert was a very friendly skunk who thankfully didn’t spray any of us!

The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity.
